Pakistan U-19 to play five one-dayers in Sri Lanka as per revised schedule

ISLAMABAD May 19 (WNP): The Pakistan under-19 side will tour Sri Lanka for five one-dayers, from May 26 till June 5, according to a revised plan that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Saturday announced.
Previously, Sri Lanka was to host Pakistan in two four-day and three 50-over matches, but following a series of gruesome bombings on Easter (April 21), the tour was postponed on April 27.
“I am pleased to confirm the Pakistan U19 cricket team’s tour to Sri Lanka is now back on track following 21 April tragic events,” PCB director international cricket Zakir Khan said.
“Pakistan have themselves been a victim of terrorism. In the past decade, we have suffered massively, both financially and in terms of growing and developing cricket in our country, following international teams’ refusals to visit Pakistan.
“When the offer for a revised schedule came on the table, the PCB management team unanimously agreed they will not allow any cricket playing country to go through the same difficulties and challenges as Pakistan. In such difficult times, the cricket family needs to stand together and support their member.”
An ongoing under-19 training camp in Karachi had to be called-off in the wake of the tour postponement. With the new dates, the group will now undergo training at the National Cricket Academy from May 19. Pakistan depart for Colombo on May 23 and will return to Karachi on June 6. All five matches will be played at Hambantota.
“The decision to visit Sri Lanka is not only to show solidarity with them but to also practice what we preach,” Zakir said.
“In reaching the decision, we have reviewed and are satisfied with the security plans Sri Lanka Cricket have to put place for the Pakistan U19 cricket team.
“We have complete faith and confidence that our team will be well looked after in Sri Lanka. In making the final decision, the PCB also took consent of the relevant authorities who backed our view to support Sri Lanka in these difficult times.”
Immediately after the conclusion of the tour of the island nation, Pakistan will travel to South Africa for as many as seven 50-over matches from June 19 to July 7 as a part of their World Cup preparations. The upcoming edition of the Under-19 World Cup will be hosted by South Africa next year.
