MULTAN, May 25 (WNP): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi Saturday said Pakistan is ready for talks with new Indian government as it is not only in the favour of both the nuclear rivals but also in the interest of regional peace and stability.
Addressing a ceremony here at Tataypur, he said we (Pakistan and India) should sit together and resolve all issues through dialogue. The steps, we have taken since our inception, are showing a positive gesture in this regard, he added.
The foreign minister said dialogues are the only way forward to settle down issues as Pakistan has always opted for that instead of going for any other solution of the issue.
Regarding Afghanistan, he said it is an important country and the peace in it is a must for regional stability.
That’s why; Pakistan is playing the role of a facilitator in Afghan peace process, he added.
The minister showed his concerns over the recent wave of terror in the country, and observed that the menace of terrorism could only be tackled through implementing National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit.
Criticizing the rash attitude of previous regimes towards NAP, he said they did not bother about it but the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is making all out efforts to implement it.
He said the establishment of South Punjab province is a demand of the locals and so is the priority of the PTI government.
The minister informed that the government has submitted a bill at the floor of the lower house and now in the next phase it is going to seek the seal of approval of other parties for the establishment of South Punjab province.
He said South Punjab province secretariat would be functional soon and for this purpose, the funds have been earmarked.
On this occasion, Federal Parliamentary Secretary on Finance Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi and member of provincial assembly Wasif Raan were also present.
