ISLAMABAD, Wednesday, August 26, 2020 (WNP): The Ministry of Religious Affairs has decided to form a ‘New Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’ for sighting moon of every Islamic month.
According to the official sources on Wednesday, the religious ministry has prepared proposals for legislation in this regard. The incumbent chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and members will be changed and new people will be inducted.
As per draft under legislation, people announcing sighting of moon on their own will be awarded strict punishments. No one will be allowed to announce sighting of moon or Eid. Those violating the law will be punished by jail term up to five years and fine ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs200,000.
Anyone having evidence of moon sighting will have to inform the government committee and it will review the evidence and announce its decision.
The New Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will have representatives from the ministries of religious affairs, science and technology, metrological, Suparco and other departments.
The new chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be appointed and committee members too will be named afresh. All these appointments will be notified officially.
